There are two type of interactive whiteboards: Front Projection and Rear projection. Both whiteboards can work as a copyboard also. You can write or draw anything on the whiteboard and save you work on the computer hard disk. The saved work can later be edited or emailed to authorized persons. In this way teachers can add annotations to a graphic image or text document and save it. Both type of interactive whiteboards have 'Optical Character Recognition' system through which the attached computer can recognise what you are writing/ drawing on the whiteboard surface and convert it into text data for storage on the hard disk.

The whiteboard in which the LCD projector is placed in front is known as the front projection whiteboard and the whiteboard in which the LCD projector is behind the whiteboard is known as the rear projection interactive whiteboard. Rear projection whiteboards are more expensive than front projections whiteboards
